Owner, Artistic Director & Owner/Director of FLIGHT AcroDance Conventions

Tamara Nastev-Smola, Owner and Director of Central City Dance & FLIGHT AcroDance Conventions, has been educating students since 1986. She is the recipient of the "Distinguished Service to the Arts Award", "Canton Community Supporter Award" and was nominated for the prestigious Athena Award, acknowledging business-women who have made a difference within the community. Tamara is a former member of the Downriver Ballet Company under the direction of the late Ms. Enid Ricardeau and is currently a member of the Cecchetti Council of America - Professional Ballet Syllabus. Tamara is the Producer and Artistic Director of the Christmas Broadway Spectacular, a Broadway-style Christmas show.  Many of Tamara's students hold state and national awards and have performed for numerous community events including the Detroit Pistons, Royal Caribbean, American Cancer Society, Canton Chamber of Commerce, and the Village Theater to name a few. Mrs. Smola formerly served as an adjunct faculty member at Eastern Michigan University & Oakland Community College where she taught Tap. Many of Tamara's former students have gone on to dance with prestigious universities and professional dance companies. Students love her high-energy classes and heart-felt, evocative choreography. Tamara is also a certified Acrobatic Arts instructor, holds a certification in Alixa Flexibility as well as Progressive Ballet Technique.  She is also a big fan of Celine Dion!

Tim Smola, Owner and Director of Central City Dance & Fitness Center and FLIGHT Acrodance Conventions, graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance. Tim served as a board member on Canton's Commission for the Arts, Culture and Heritage promoting Dance and the Arts in the Canton Community from 2003-2006. He is a 2012 graduate of the Leadership Canton program and is a recipient of the “Canton Community Supporter Award, 2006", "Distinguished Service to the Arts Award, 2011", and Canton’s “Business Person of the year, 2014” for his continued involvement within the community. Tim is a former member of the Peter Sparling Dance Company, an adjunct faculty member at Eastern Michigan University, Dance Department, 2000-20013, and a trained Nationally Certified Massage Therapist.  In addition to teaching and operating his studio, Tim also works at Michigan Medicine, Department of Physical & Occupational Therapy.  Tim is Alixa Flexibility (M2) and Progressive Ballet Technique (PBT) certified and is happy to be on staff with Acrobatic Arts sharing his love of dance and acrobatics.

Ms. Erin has been sharing her love for dance since 1999.  In addition to co-creating and co-directing Central City’s Preschool Project, and the studio’s Special Needs program she also co-directs the amazing Christmas Broadway Spectacular.  She has completed numerous teacher training seminars as well as dance teacher conventions over the years, gaining experience from master teachers around the country. Ms. Erin became certified with Acrobatic Arts and is now a certified Acro instructor.  She has been a part of the Central City Dance family since it’s opening in 2002 and was a member of the center’s award-winning competitive program, performing at community events such as Relay for Life, Canton Chamber of Commerce events, and the Gala Opening of the Cherry Hill Village Theater, Detroit Pistons Games as well as on international waters aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise lines.  Ms. Erin is loved by her students, many of which have achieved state and national awards for her fun and exciting choreography. She graduated in 2012 from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelors of Science. Ms. Erin has a wonderfully supportive husband, Mick and a dog named Ruby.

Shannon has been on staff with Central City Dance since 2001 and has been teaching all styles of dance since 1995. Prior to joining the CCD family, she graduated, with honors, from Eastern Michigan University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in education, with concentrations in Math and Science and earned her Master's degree in Math education from Wayne State University. While attending Eastern, she also received a dance minor and also gained training in Ballet, Pointe, Jazz and Modern Dance.  She was featured in many solo roles in EMU ballets such as Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Boutique Fantastique, and Coppelia. As a member of EMU's Dance Program, she had numerous performance opportunities locally, nationally and internationally. Shannon has been one of CCD’s competitive team instructors. Shannon's modern and lyrical choreography have been nominated each year in several regional and national competitions. Shannon is committed to providing the best dance education for her students as she travels to dance teacher conferences to stay current on the latest dance curriculum.  Shannon is also a certified Acrobatic Arts instructor, holds a certification in Alixa Flexibility as well as Progressive Ballet Technique. Shannon is excited to share her love and knowledge of dance with the students of Central City Dance.

Dance Instructor

Bethany has been on staff with Central City Dance since 2001 and was a member of CCDC’s award-winning competitive team, winning many top state and national awards along the way. Bethany was a dancer, as well as dance captain, of the Detroit Ignition Dance Team for three years where her experiences gave her numerous teaching and performing opportunities, one of which was dancing for the opening of Kayne West and Usher. She teaches all genres of dance to children enrolled in the Competitive Teams as well as the Recreation program. She has taken numerous teacher training seminars as well as dance convention workshops throughout the years, gaining experience from master teachers around the country. Bethany graduated from Eastern Michigan University earning a degree in Business. In addition to being on staff at Central City Dance Center, she is currently Chief of Staff for a financial advisor. In her spare time, Bethany loves boating and spending time with her husband, Devin, and their dog, Lucy!

Lyssa was trained in all genres of dance nearly her entire life, winning many top state and national awards along the way. She has taken numerous teacher training seminars as well as dance convention workshops throughout the years, gaining experience from master teachers around the country. Lyssa was a part of the center's award-winning Performance Team and has been educating children at Central City Dance Center since 2001. She has performed at many community events such as Relay for Life, Canton Chamber of Commerce, opening Gala of the Village Theater, the Detroit Pistons and Shock Games and also on international waters aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise lines to name a few. She is a wife and mother of three.

Dance Instructor & Birthday Host

Ashley has loved dancing under the instruction of Tamara Nastev-Smola and Tim Smola since the age of 3. She has been a part of the Center's award-winning Performance Team and has won numerous top awards for both group and solo performances. Ashley has performed at many community events such as Canton Supervisor, Tom Yack's, retirement gala, the Haunted Horns IV Thriller performance, Relay for Life, the Detroit Pistons and Shock Games and also internationally on the Royal Caribbean cruise lines. She also had the privilege of dancing in lead roles for the Central City Christmas Spectacular. Ashley trained in NY at the Broadway Dance Center during a summer intensive and also in many regional dance conventions and master classes. She obtained her Bachelor's in Elementary Education from Eastern Michigan and her Master's of Early Childhood Education from Concordia University.  In addition to sharing her passion of dance with children, Ashley also teaches kindergarten.

Ballet Instructor

Rebecca Zahm began her dance training at the age of ten at Randazzo Dance Studio.  Before graduating high school, she studied ballet and modern dance, and passed her Cecchetti student exams through Grade VI. Rebecca attended Oakland University for three semesters before transferring to Eastern Michigan University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance and French.  During her college career, Rebecca worked with many well-known teachers and choreographers including Laurie Eisenhower, Ginger Thatcher, Ali Woerner, Christina Tasco, Rodney Brown, Sherry Jerome Wilkinson, Joanna McNamara, Shauna Steele, Holly Hobbs, and Wendi DuBois. Rebecca danced with the Rustic Groove Dance Company under the direction of Matthew Farmer, Kristen Farmer, and Shauna Steele for two seasons.  Currently, Rebecca is dancing with the People Dancing Company under the direction of Christina Sears-Etter. She is also studying for her Grade VI Cecchetti  teachers exam.

Dance Instructor

Meagen started dancing at three years old.  At 8 years old, she started competing in many regional and national competitions, as a soloist and as a group.  She had the privilege of dancing at Central City Dance the first year it opened and was on the competitive team for the first two years before leaving for college.  In her undergraduate education at Central Michigan University, she was member of the Orchesis Dance Company.  She started teaching dance in 2009 after graduation at a studio in Bay City, where she taught for 2 years.  When she moved home to Canton, she was able to begin to share her love of dance with students at Central City.  Throughout the years, she has taught all genres of dance to children of all ages.  In her professional career, she has over 10 years experience working with children of all ages as a paraprofessional in Montessori Schools and a behavior technician doing applied behavior therapy with children on the Autism Spectrum.  She graduated in 2017 from Wayne State University with a dual Master's in Community Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling.  She worked as an Elementary Counselor and Academic Advisor in Garden City schools before becoming a Student Academic and Behavior Support Specialist for a Plymouth Canton middle school.  She also spends time during the week volunteering as a berevement support group facilitator for preschool children, as well as seeing clients of all ages in a clinical setting.

Jaime has been dancing her whole life, has been a dance teacher for over 15 years and has been part of the Central City Dance staff since 2012. Starting at age 5, Jaime grew up a competitive dancer and she traveled and performed all over the country. As a performer, Jaime won overall and title awards at the regional and national level as both a soloist and group dancer. Her training included all genres of dance, she studied the Cecchetti Method of ballet and she was lucky to learn from some of the best choreographers and master teachers in the country. As an adult and teacher she has continued to study the Cecchetti Method and was part of the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters for 5 years attending yearly conventions. She choreographed for a regional and national award winning competitive team for 7 years, teaching all ages, and all group sizes from solo’s to productions.  Jaime still loves to dance and was excited to be part of the Central City Dance adults competitive group last year. Jaime has a love for movement and it has led her to yoga. She is an E-RYT certified yoga instructor through Yoga Alliance and she is also a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider, YACEP certified. She has been teaching yoga for just over 13 years. She loves to dance and loves to share her passion of dance with others.

Dance Instructor

Angela started dancing at the age of 4, and began training with Central City Dance under the instruction of Tim Smola and Tamara Nastev at the age of 9. She has been apart of the Center’s award-winning Performance Team and has won numerous top awards for both group and solo performances. She has taken several workshops throughout the years, gaining experience from master teachers around the country. Angela has exercised her performance opportunities at many community events such as Relay For Life, Detroit Pistons and Ignition games, and several lead roles for the Central City Christmas Spectacular. Angela is currently taking master classes while going to school at the University of Michigan - Dearborn, pursing a degree in Political Science. She is thrilled to further her teaching career at Central City Dance.

Dance Instructor

Sydney has been studying dance for over 19 years.  Her studies include Tap, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Ballet, Lyrical, Modern and Contemporary dance.  She began dancing under the instruction of Tamera Nastev- Smola and Tim Smola at the age of 8. She was a member of the CCDC Competitive Performance team for over 8 years before becoming an instructor. She was also a cast member in The Christmas Broadway Spectacular for many years and held many lead roles. Sydney has performed at multiple community events such as Relay for Life, HHT, and Liberty fest and has also performed on Royal Caribbean cruise line. Sydney continues to strengthen her skills by taking classes in New York City and Los Angeles.  Sydney was also a competitive Baton Twirler for over 13 years.  During this time she won several National titles as a soloist and with her team. Sydney is currently pursuing a degree in Marketing at Eastern Michigan University.  In her free time she loves to take pictures and explore.

Acrobatics Instructor

Jordyn has been dancing for 15 years under the instruction of Tamara Nastev-Smola and Tim Smola.  Along with the many years of dancing she has been apart of the Central City competitive team winning numerous high score awards.  As well as competing, Jordyn has performed in the Christmas Broadway Spectacular and has received multiple lead roles. Jordyn has attended dance conventions and workshops expanding her training as she learned from professional choreographers from all over the country. She has also been featured in multiple advertisements and catalogs for Acrobatic Arts and Tumbl Trak. Through many years of dancing, Jordyn found a passion for acro once it became very popular in the dance world.  Jordyn trained with Acrobatic Arts for several years and has taken her level 3 exam passing with superior score, and is now a certified Acrobatic Arts instructor. In addition being on staff at Central City Dance, she is pursuing a career of Speech Pathology. Jordyn is excited to share her passion of acro with the students at Central City Dance.

Kelly started dancing at the age of 3 and joined Central City Dance in 2006. She has had numerous opportunities to train and compete at the regional and national levels and has won many awards for her performances and choreography. She has performed in Disney World, Las Vegas, Washington DC and King's Island. Ms. Kelly enjoys keeping up with the latest dance trends by taking classes around the country whenever possible! She teaches in both the recreational and competitive programs and enjoys working with students of all ages and levels, and challenging them to be their best while providing a positive, safe, and fun environment! Kelly earned her Bachelors Degree from the University of Michigan - Dearborn and her MBA from Wayne State University. Ms. Kelly is also a Certified Group Fitness Instructor through The American Council on Exercise and a Certified Flexibility Instructor through Alixa Flexibility. When she is not teaching, she enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, working out, and mixing music!

Miss Lisa, a freelance choreographer/dance teacher and musical theatre instructor is a former performer of the Theme Park and Musical Revue show circuit and spent several years as the Head Choreographer/Show Director and Manager for Cedar Point Live Entertainment in Sandusky, OH. She holds a teaching degree in Speech Communication, Theatre and Dance from Indiana State University. 

Miss Lisa choreographs and teaches dance and theatre for many schools, show choirs, community organizations and stock/regional theatres. She has served as a adjudicator for Dance Masters of MI., Theatre/Dance Teaching Artist for the Arts Unlimited program of Bowling Green State University, "The Nutcracker" Local Talent Coordinator for Sandusky State Theatre, Show Producer/Director for the Sandusky Volunteer Center Youth Theatre Project, Instructor for the Michigan Dance Festival, Hip Hop Instructor for the Young Champions coaching workshop, Choreographer for the Huron Playhouse, Sandusky "Follies", Nashville Follies, Everafter Productions and Toledo's Valentine Theatre, Producer/Choreographer for Roeder Harley Davidson Fashion Show, Pageant adjudicator,  Certified Acrobatic Arts, Zumba, Total Barre, Pound fitness instructor and judge for numerous show choir competitions across the U.S..

Yoga Instructor

Kelly is trained in Ashtanga, Arusara and Basic Yoga. She has trained with Berly Binder Birch, John Friend, Kathy McNames and Desiree Rumbaugh and has her Yoga certification from the Yoga Alliance Certification. She has been studying Yoga for over 8 years and is excited about sharing her love of Yoga with students from Central City Dance Center. Kelly enjoys spending time with her wonderful husband and four very active children.

She has also held several lead roles in The Christmas Broadway Spectacular. Gigi is also a certified Acrobatic Arts instructor. She is excited to share her passion of dance with the students of Central City Dance.

Sara has been dancing under the instruction of Tamara Nastev-Smola and Tim Smola since the age of 3. She has been part of the award-winning Competitive Performance Team and has won numerous top awards for both group and solo performances at the regional and national level. Sara has performed at multiple community events such as Relay for Life and Liberty Fest. Sara has performed for the Detroit Pistons, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, and has held leading roles in the The Christmas Broadway Spectacular. She has taken several workshops, most currently FLIGHT Acro Dance Convention, over the years gaining extensive dance training from professional choreographers from all over the country. In addition to being on Staff at Central City Dance, she is pursuing a nursing career. She is thrilled to share her passion for dance with the students of Central City Dance.

Mikhayla has been dancing since she was 3 years old. She started her training at Sylvias Studio of Dance, Randazzo Dance, and Ballet Chelsea where she was a member of the Ann Arbor Civic Ballet Theater, Ypsilanti Area Dancers, Sole Full of Rhythm, Jazz Ensemble, and Ballet Chelsea Performing Company. Mikhayla has also studied with various professional companies including American Ballet Theater, Boston Ballet, Joffrey Ballet Chicago, Joffrey Ballet New York, and Ballet Austin. After graduating high school, Mikhayla began her college Career as a dance major at Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA. While there, she danced professionally with the Lake Erie Ballet Company. After a few years she transferred to Eastern Michigan University where she graduated with her B.A in Dance Performance. While at Eastern she has performed a variety of lead roles including Kitri in Don Quixote, the Lilac Fairy in Sleeping Beauty, the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, as well as many contemporary ballet and modern roles. Mikhayla has also served as a dance instructor and rehearsal director for Ballet Chelsea.  She is truly thrilled to be working with such a supportive, creative, and professional staff here at CCDC.

Allie has been dancing under the instruction of Tamara Nastev-Smola and Tim Smola since the age of 3, training in all different styles. She has been a member of Central City’s award-winning Competitive Performance Team and has won numerous awards. She has also co-taught many award-winning teams a Central City Dance. Allie has also performed in the Christmas Broadway Spectacular for many years and has received multiple lead roles. Allie has attended multiple conventions and workshops over the years gaining experience and knowledge from professional choreographers from all over. She also performed at community events including, Relay for Life, Liberty Fest, and at Detroit Pistons games. Along with being a staff member at Central City Dance, she is pursuing a career in Elementary Education. Allie is super excited to share her love and passion for dance with the students of Central City Dance.
