Owner, Artistic Director

Tamara Nastev-Smola, Owner and Director of Central City Dance Center, has been educating students since 1986. She is the recipient of the "Distinguished Service to the Arts Award", "Canton Community Supporter Award" and was nominated for the prestigious Athena Award, acknowledging business-women who have made a difference within the community. Tamara is a former member of the Downriver Ballet Company under the direction of the late Ms. Enid Ricardeau and is currently a member of the Cecchetti Council of America - Professional Ballet Syllabus. Tamara is the Producer and Artistic Director of the Central City Christmas Spectacular, a Broadway-style Christmas show as well as guest choreographer for the annual American Girl Doll Fashion Show. Many of Tamara's students hold state and national awards and have performed for numerous community events including the Detroit Pistons, Royal Caribbean cruise lines, American Cancer Society, Canton Chamber of Commerce, and the Village Theater to name a few. Mrs. Nastev-Smola formerly served as an adjunct faculty member at Eastern Michigan University & Oakland Community College where she taught Tap. Many of Tamara's former students have gone on to dance with prestigious universities and professional dance companies. Students love her high-energy classes and heart-felt, evocative choreography. She is also a big fan of Celine Dion!

Owner, Artistic Director

Mr. Smola, Owner and Director of Central City Dance Center, graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance from the University of Michigan. He served as a board member on Canton's Commission for the Arts, Culture and Heritage promoting Dance and the Arts in the Canton Community from 2003-2006. He is the recipient of the "Distinguished Service to the Arts Award", "Canton Community Supporter Award" and was nominated as Business Person of the year in 2004 & 2011 for his continued involvement within the community. Tim is a former member of the Peter Sparling Dance Company and a trained Nationally Certified Massage Therapist. During his career, Mr. Smola danced in works by world-renown choreographers Merce Cunningham, Martha Graham, and Paul Taylor. In the commercial circuit he danced in Walt Disney's European Engagement of Pocahontas and toured with the International Auto Show Circuit. Mr. Smola has taught and performed for dance companies, universities and figure skating clubs since 1990 and has been on staff at Eastern Michigan University, Dance Department since 2000. Mr. Smola is currently attending the Leadership Canton program.

Dance Instructor, Competitive & Recreation Programs

Erin has been sharing her love of dance since 1999. In addition to co-creating and co-directing Central City's Preschool Project, and the Special Needs Program she also co-directs the exciting Christmas Broadway Spectacular. Erin has also been a guest choreographer for the annual American Girl Doll Fashion Show. She has taken numerous teacher training seminars as well as dance convention workshops throughout the years, gaining experience from master teachers around the country. She recently became certified with Acrobatic Arts and is now certified as an Acro instructor. Ms. Erin has been a part of Central City Dance Center since it's opening in 2002 and was also a member of the center's award-winning competitive teams, performing at many community events such as Relay for Life, Canton Chamber of Commerce, opening Gala of the Village Theater, the Detroit Pistons and Shock Games and also on international waters aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise lines. Erin is loved by her students, many of which have achieved state and national awards for her outstanding choreography. Erin graduated in 2012 from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelors of Science. Erin has a wonderfully supportive husband, Mick, and a dog named Ruby.

Dance Instructor, Competitive & Recreation Programs

Shannon has been on staff with Central City Dance since 2001 and has been teaching all styles of dance since 1995. Prior to joining the CCD family, she graduated, with honors, from Eastern Michigan University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in education, with concentrations in Math and Science and earned her Master's degree in Math education from Wayne State University. While attending Eastern, she also received a dance minor and also gained training in Ballet, Pointe, Jazz and Modern Dance.  She was featured in many solo roles in EMU ballets such as Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Boutique Fantastique, and Coppelia. As a member of EMU's Dance Program, she had numerous performance opportunities locally, nationally and internationally. Shannon's choreography has been nominated each year in several regional and national competitions.  Most recently she won Encore DCS's national finals Senior Choreography award for "The Cello Song". Shannon is also a certified Acrobatic Arts instructor.

Bethany was a dancer as well as dance captain of the Detroit Ignition Dance Team for three years where her experiences gave her numerous teaching and performing opportunities, one of which was dancing for the opening of Kayne West and Usher. Bethany teaches all genres of dance to children enrolled in the Performance Teams as well as the Recreation program. In addition to being on staff at Central City Dance Center since 2001, Bethany also attended Eastern Michigan University earning a degree in Business.

Lyssa was trained in all genres of dance nearly her entire life, winning many top state and national awards along the way. She has taken numerous teacher training seminars as well as dance convention workshops throughout the years, gaining experience from master teachers around the country. Lyssa was a part of the center's award-winning Performance Team and has been educating children at Central City Dance Center since 2001. She is a wife and mother of three.

Dance Instructor, Recreation Program

Ashley has loved dancing under the instruction of Tamara Nastev-Smola and Tim Smola since the age of 3. She has been a part of the Center's award-winning Performance Team and has won numerous top awards for both group and solo performances. Ashley has performed at many community events such as Canton Supervisor, Tom Yack's, retirement gala, the Haunted Horns IV Thriller performance, Relay for Life, the Detroit Pistons and Shock Games and also internationally on the Royal Caribbean cruise lines. She also had the privilege of dancing in lead roles for the Central City Christmas Spectacular. Ashley trained in NY at the Broadway Dance Center during a summer intensive and also in many regional dance conventions and master classes. In addition to dancing full time, Ashley also attends Eastern Michigan University studying Elementary Education and works with underprivileged families through her churches outreach programs.

Ballet Mistress, Competitive Teams
Rebecca began her dance training at the age of ten at Randazzo Dance in Ypsilanti.  There she trained in Cecchetti ballet as well as modern dance.  Rebecca attened Oakland University for threesemesters before transferring to Eastern Michigan University.  During that time she worke3d with many well-known teachers and choreographers including Laurie Eisenhower, Ginger Thatcher, Ali Woerner, Christina Tasco, Rodney Brown, Sherry Jerome Wilkinson, Joanna McNamara, Shauna Steele, Holly Hobbs and Wendi DuBois.  Rebecca also danced with the Rustic Groove Dance Company under the direction of Matthew Farmer, Kristen Farmer, and Shauna Steele.  Rebecca graduated summa cum laude and received her Bachelor of Arts in Dance and French in December of 2012.

Theater/Acting Program

Debbie is thrilled to be joining the Central City Dance teaching staff. She has been a member of many local theatre organizations for over 20 years, acting, producing and directing more than 30 productions. You may recognize Debbie as a familiar face around Central City, as the parent of CCD student, Emily, and as the face of Mrs. Claus in the Central City Christmas Spectacular. Along with her many roles on stage, Debbie has directed several plays and musicals, winning Best Director Award for The Diary of Anne Frank at the Player's Guild of Dearborn (PGD). Debbie has taught children's theatre in the Detroit area for several years and has been on the production team for The Guildlings Children's Theatre (PGD) for the last 3 years. Debbie's classes are filled with fun, laughter and all of the "magic" that brings the stage to life!

Dance Instructor, Competitive & Recreation Programs and Fitness Instructor

Kelly started dancing at the age of 3 and began dancing competitively at the age of 9. She has had numerous opportunities to train and compete at the regional and national level and has won many awards for her performances and choreography. She has performed in Disney World, Las Vegas, Washington DC and King's Island, and has had the opportunity to train with EDGE Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles. Kelly earned her Bachelors Degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Michigan - Dearborn and her MBA from Wayne State University. Ms. Kelly is also a Certified Group Fitness Instructor through The American Council on Exercise and has been involved with Central City Dance Center since 2006. She is extremely excited to be a part of the staff to share her love of dance and fitness with the students.

Certified ZUMBA Instructor, Dance Instructor, Recreation Program, Special Needs Program & Birthday Host

Lisa, a freelance choreographer/dance teacher and musical theatre instructor, spent several years performing on the Theme Park and Musical Revue show circuit and six years as the Head Choreographer/Show Director and Manager for Cedar Point Live Entertainment in Sandusky, OH where she continued to be involved with show development, direction and choreography through 2008. She holds a teaching degree in Speech Communication, Theatre and Dance from Indiana State University.

Miss Lisa choreographs and teaches dance and theatre for many schools, show choirs, community organizations and stock/regional theatres. She has served as a Theatre/Dance Teaching Artist for the Arts Unlimited program of Bowling Green State University, "The Nutcracker" Local Talent Coordinator for Sandusky State Theatre, Show Producer/Director for the Sandusky Volunteer Center Youth Theatre Project, Instructor for the Michigan Dance Festival, Hip Hop Instructor for the Young Champions coaching workshop, Choreographer for the Huron Playhouse, Sandusky "Follies", Nashville Follies, Everafter Productions and Toledo's Valentine Theatre, Producer/Choreographer for Roeder Harley Davidson Fashion Show, Zumba instructor and judge for numerous show choir competitions across the U.S. Currently, she resides in Michigan with her husband and daughter.



Yoga Instructor

Kelly is trained in Ashtanga, Arusara and Basic Yoga. She has trained with Berly Binder Birch, John Friend, Kathy McNames and Desiree Rumbaugh and has her Yoga certification from the Yoga Alliance Certification. She has been studying Yoga for over 8 years and is excited about sharing her love of Yoga with students from Central City Dance Center. Kelly enjoys spending time with her wonderful husband and four very active children.
